Stroke is a medical emergency that occurs when blood flow to the brain is interrupted. In Bangladesh, stroke is a leading cause of disability and death.
Remember FAST to recognize stroke:
- Face: Does one side of the face droop?
- Arms: Can the person raise both arms?
- Speech: Is speech slurred or strange?
- Time: Call for emergency help immediately!
Stroke prevention:
1. Control high blood pressure โ the number one risk factor.
2. Manage diabetes and cholesterol.
3. Quit smoking.
4. Exercise regularly.
5. Eat a healthy diet low in salt and saturated fat.
6. Limit alcohol.
7. Treat atrial fibrillation if diagnosed.
Every minute counts during a stroke. Getting treatment within the first few hours can significantly reduce brain damage and improve outcomes.
